About the NMLS Library
The NMLS Library supports the teaching, learning and research needs of the School, providing students and teaching staff with access to a wide range of legal information and research support. Services are also available to alumni and other users, subject to the Library's access arrangements.
Its print and electronic collections include legislation, case law, law reports, books, journals, e-books and subscription-based legal databases, supported by research and reference services and training.

The NMLS Library provides access to current students, faculty and staff, alumni and external users, with different access arrangements for each category.
Current Students, Faculty and Staff
Primary users of the Library:
- Have authorised access to the Library’s subscription-based legal databases
- Have borrowing privileges
- May use Research & Reference Services at no charge
- May use the Library’s physical spaces at any time
NMLS Alumni
Treated as primary users, given the Library’s mandate to provide services to alumni and the legal fraternity:
- May be granted borrowing privileges, at the discretion of the Librarian or Assistant Librarian and provided they are in good standing
- May use Research & Reference Services at a cost
- May use the Library’s physical spaces, usually from 4:00 p.m. to closing time, unless otherwise permitted at the discretion of the Library
- Do not have access to the Library’s subscription-based legal databases
- May use the Library’s physical collection
External Users
These include UWI students, researchers, government ministries/agencies and law firms:
- May use the Library’s physical spaces at the discretion of the Librarian or Assistant Librarian
- May use Research & Reference Services at a cost
- Do not have borrowing privileges
- May use the Library’s printing and photocopying services at a cost
The NMLS Library provides continued access and research support to NMLS alumni, including access to the Library’s physical collection, borrowing privileges in approved circumstances, and research and reference services.
Library Access
Alumni may use the Library’s physical spaces and physical collection, subject to the Library’s access arrangements for alumni.
Borrowing
Borrowing privileges may be granted at the discretion of the Librarian or Assistant Librarian and are subject to the alumnus being in good standing.
Research & Reference Services
Alumni may access the Library’s Research & Reference Services, including assistance with locating case law, journal articles and legislative materials. Fees apply. For information on fees, contact the Library at LawLibrary@nmlscle.com.
Printing, Photocopying & Scanning
Different rates apply to alumni with an NMLS Alumni Membership Card and alumni without an NMLS Alumni Membership Card.
With an NMLS Alumni Membership Card

Cost: B&W: JMD $30/page | Colour: JMD $50/page
Without an NMLS Alumni Membership Card

All service charges are subject to change.
Get help from the Library team with your research requests and navigating complex legal materials, including assistance with locating case law, journal articles and legislative materials. Relevant user guides and manuals may also be provided by email as part of the service.
Access to the Service
Current NMLS students and staff:

NMLS Alumni:
Research & Reference Services are available at a fee.

Fees

Request Library documents and have them delivered directly to you by email, subject to applicable copyright requirements.
Send your request, including details of the material required, to LawLibrary@nmlscle.com .
Students can print and photocopy independently using the Library’s PaperCut print management system and their individual PaperCut account. Instructions for setting up and using your account are available in the NMLS Library Handbook.
Upon registration, students receive a one-time PaperCut top-up. Once this has been used, additional PaperCut cards must be purchased.

Please note: Printing of student manuals is not permitted in the Library.
The Library provides access to computer workstations, internet and Wi-Fi for Library users.
For Wi-Fi access, please speak with a member of the Library team at the Circulation Desk for the password.

Library FAQs
You may contact the Library by telephone, email or by visiting the Library in person during opening hours. Assistance is also available through the Library's Ask-a-Librarian service on the website.
The Library provides WiFi access. Please speak with a member of staff at the Circulation Desk to obtain the WiFi password.
Current students and staff may borrow Library materials using their valid NMLS identification. Borrowing privileges for alumni are subject to Library policy and the discretion of the Librarian or Assistant Librarian. Loan periods and borrowing conditions vary depending on the user category and the type of material being borrowed.
Yes. The NMLS Library provides Information Literacy, Database Training, AI Literacy and Legal Research Skills training. Students receive training in the use of Lexis+ UK, Westlaw Precision and vLex Justis, and recorded sessions are made available for future reference.
