Meridian Kohler was called the bar of Jamaica in 1999. She worked as private counsel for the first six months then transitioned to a prosecutor. Miss Kohler was responsible for prosecuting in the Western parish of Hanover in Jamaica for 3 years. In 2003 she was subsequently promoted to the office of the DPP where she remained until 2014. She rose to the rank of a senior deputy director of public prosecutions (acting). In this role she prosecuted serious crimes throughout Jamaica as well as represented the Crown at the appellate level.
Miss Kohler had special responsibility for Privy Council matters, judicial review matters and was deputy head of the unit on sexual offences, human trafficking, human rights and intellectual property. She has written a manual on the prosecution of sexual offences and child pornography as well as a number of articles in varying areas of her practice. She has also undergone training as a mediator and is a trainer of personnel in the combatting of human trafficking. She undertook a Masters in Human Rights at the University of Nottingham in 2008 and in 2011 completed a three month internship at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR). She joined the faculty of the law school in August 2015.
Miss Kohler in her spare time enjoys reading, learning Spanish and German, travelling, latin dancing and playing scrabble. She is married and has a son.
