In awarding the Legal Education Certificate, account is taken of the student’s performance on the In -Service Training programme. Students in the Six-Month Programme are also required to undertake a period of In-Service Training. It is the responsibility of the student to identify a suitable placement for training, in consultation with the Senior Tutor. 6. EXEMPTION FROM COURSE OF STUDY: (i) Six-Month Programme Course of Study Pursuant to Regulation 48(2), students registered on the Six-Month Programme may make an application for an exemption from a course by way of a signed letter addressed to the Principal, with appropriate supporting documents, as soon as possible after completing the registration process. In any event, the application must be made no later than the end of the first week in October of each academic year. No application for exemption will be accepted after that period. With respect to the course Law Office Management Accounting and Technology (LOMAT), in order to obtain an exemption, students must demonstrate that they have: i. Significant practical exposure to Law Office Management; ii. Handled client accounts and client funds; iii. Submitted to regulatory supervisors, including demonstrating an understanding of proceeds of crime legislation, providing reports in a timely manner and demonstrating having operated an appropriate infrastructure to provide same. The Principal will assess the supporting documents, in consultation with the Senior Tutor and/or the Course Director, and will determine whether an exemption should be granted. A letter outlining the decision will be sent to the applicant within ten business days. (ii) Repeat Students Pursuant to Regulation 7(5A) students required to repeat a year
