It is the student’s responsibility, in consultation with the Senior Tutor, to find suitable placement for training. The student should be under the supervision of an attorney- at- law with at least five years’ experience in practice, who is in good standing in the profession. In awarding the Legal Education Certificate, account is taken of the student’s performance on the In -Service Training programme. Students in the Six Month Programme are also required to undertake a period of In-Service Training. It is the responsibility of the student to identify a suitable placement for training, in consultation with the Senior Tutor. In-Service Training may be undertaken during the six- months period of the course of study. 6. EXEMPTION FROM SUBJECTS IN COURSE OF STUDY: (i) Six Month Programme Course of Study Pursuant to Regulation 48(2), students registered on the Six-Month Programme may make an application for an exemption from a subject by submitting a signed letter, addressed to the Principal, with appropriate supporting documents, as soon as possible after completing the registration process. In any event, the application must be made no later than the end of the first week in October of each academic year. No application for exemption will be accepted after that period. An exemption from Law Office Management Accounting and Technology (LOMAT), requires a student to demonstrate that they have: i. significant practical exposure to Law Office Management; ii. handled client accounts and client funds; iii. submitted to regulatory supervisors, including demonstrating an understanding of proceeds of crime legislation, providing reports in a timely manner and demonstrating having operated an appropriate infrastructure to provide same.
