Council of Legal Education Norman Manley Law School

10 “Etched in History, Anchored in Legal Education, Serving a Region” application for a remark of the script. The Review Committee will appoint two independent examiners to remark/review the script. Regulation 45 (6A) provides that a student who has received a B or C grade and who wishes to apply for a review must state reasons, in writing, for wanting a review. The Regulation states that the application by the student is first referred to the Course Director who may make written comments to the Review Committee. Some Course Directors provide detailed comments while others will simply state they stand by their grade or that the comments have already been made on the script. The Review Committee in considering the application, together with the comments from the Course Director, will determine whether or not the student has made out a prima facie case for a review. Applications which make assertions such as: “ I worked very hard” , “ my friend got an A” “ I do not think I deserve a C”, and “ I am one Grade away from the Principal’s Roll of Honour” do not provide a basis for a review. An assertion that jurisdictional differences were not recognized in the paper by the examiner, or to point to some authority which gives support for a position adopted by the student are examples of assertions that might give rise to a prima facie case, if factually supported. Students should also be aware that a grade could be changed by going down or improve on the remark, as well as remain the same . 15. ATTENDANCE REGISTER AND POLICY Regulation 38(2) of the Regulations states as follows: “The Registrar shall refuse to admit a student to an examination at a School on being notified by the Principal: (a) that the Principal is not satisfied that the student’s attendance at the courses of the School has been satisfactory; or (b) that the utilization by the student of the available opportunities for practical professional training and experience has been unsatisfactory”. The record of attendance by students at lectures, tutorials, seminars and at the Legal Aid Clinic will be kept and monitored by the school,
